Financial Planning
Specialized telephonic financial planning consultations are provided by a Certified Financial Planner (CFP). Military OneSource will arrange a telephonic appointment with these financial planners. A CFP will speak with eligible service members and family members about items such as:
- Insurance
- Tax issues
- Basics of investing
- IRAs and mutual funds
- Retirement planning
- TSP/401(k)/403(b) questions
- How to find, select, and work with a local financial planner
The CFPs focus on problem-solving and strategic planning related to investing and savings. For example, when discussing investment options, a financial planner might discuss historical returns and volatility of different broad types of investment, such as bonds, blue chip stocks, small capitalization stocks, mutual funds, or certificates of deposit (CDs). He or she might show how that information can help a client make investment decisions appropriate to the client’s financial goals, age, or tolerance for risk. The financial planner provides objective information and does not recommend one investment over another.
Financial Tax
Specialized telephonic financial tax consultations are provided by a Certified Public Accountants (CPA). Military OneSource will arrange a telephonic appointment with these financial tax consultants to provide information and education about federal tax issues.
This service is available year round and separate from the the Military OneSource Tax Program, which includes access to H&R Block's free electronic filing from January to June.
